Fargo's Public Safety Sales Tax
Background
On November 4, 2024, citizens of Fargo voted to authorize collection of a one-quarter percent municipal sales tax. This tax will commence April 1, 2025, and will expire on March 31, 2045. The sales tax will be utilized by The City of Fargo for fire and police operations, equipment and facilities.
Senior Leadership fromĀ Finance,Human Resources, FireĀ and Policewas tasked with achieving an implementation plan for Fargo that was:

- Inclusive
- Balanced
- Durable
- Sustainable
- Thoughtful
Implementation
Senior Leadership proposes to implement the multi-faceted plan on July 7, 2025. Leadership believes the proposed plan:
- Effectively addresses the immediate priorities of both the Police and Fire Departments.
- Remains fiscally responsible and aligned with long-term budgetary considerations
- Maximizes ability of the Public Safety Sales Tax while keeping the plan financially solvent
The Fargo City Commission will be asked to consider adopting the proposed plan at its regular May 27, 2025 meeting.
