Human Rights Commission Meeting Minutes - May 19, 2022

The Regular Meeting of the Board of Human Rights Commission of the City of Fargo, North Dakota, was held in the Commission Chambers at City Hall at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2022.
The Human Rights Commissioners present or absent were as follows:
Present: Abdiwali Sharif-Abdinasir, Matuor Alier, Carolyn Becraft, Jed Locquiao, Barry Nelson, Cheryl Schaefle, Cody Severson
Absent: Sarah Boonstoppel, Nancy Boyle, Hamida Dakane, Ahmed Shiil.
Item 1. Welcome and Introductions
Chair Alier welcomed Members to the meeting and introductions were made.
Item 2. Approve Order of Agenda
Member Becraft moved the Order of Agenda be approved as presented. Second by Member Schaefle. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.
Item 3. Approve Order of Minutes
Member Sharif-Abdinasir moved the minutes of the April 21, 2022 Human Rights Commission meeting be approved as presented. Second by Member Becraft. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.
Item 4. Public Comment
Jacqueline Dotzenrod spoke about her concerns with the lack of representation from individuals with disabilities on the Human Rights Commission.
Victoria Johnson spoke about the Grand Opening of the All Nations Assembly of God new church.
Item 5. Update on the Survey from Jed Locquiao
Member Locquiao gave an update on the Pilot Survey results thus far.
Item 6. Race Exhibit coming to Fargo City Hall
Terry said beginning June 6th there will be a Race Exhibit coming to City Hall. The exhibit will possibly be at City Hall until the middle of September. He said he believes that it will be educational for everyone.
Item 7. Presentation from Erica Thunder at next month’s meeting
Terry said he wanted to see what the results of the Pilot Survey resulted in before he asked Ms. Thunder to come and speak. He said he feels that she will be able to bridge the gaps of knowledge on Civil Rights. He said there will be more to come on this topic.

Item 8. Update from the Communications & Government Affairs Department
Terry said he will be working with the Communications and Government Affairs
Department to spruce up the Human Rights web page.
Item 9. Announcements
Bill Ahlfeldt, Fargo Police Department, said the Annual Fargo Police Community Picnic
will take place on June 29th at the Urban Plains Park from 5-8 p.m. He said it is a
great outreach opportunity.
