Fargo Youth Initiative - January 7, 2024 Minutes

The Regular Meeting of the Fargo Youth Initiative Members of the City of Fargo, North Dakota, was held in the Dawson Room of Fargo Public Library – Main at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, January 7, 2024.

The Fargo Youth Initiative Members present or absent were as follows:

Present: Abhijna Kavasseri, Jadyn Chakua, Koral Siegel, McKenzie Olson, Abigail Hamilton, Kallie Anderson, Madeline Abbott, Angel Mochoge

Absent: Isabella Meyer, Ava Martin, Steph Kramer, Patrick Shen

Item 1. Welcome and Introductions
Assistant Planner Catlyn Christie welcomed Members to the meeting and introductions were made.

Item 2. Approve Agenda & Minutes
Member Hamilton moved the Order of Agenda and the minutes of the October 29, 2023 and December 3, 2023 Fargo Youth Initiative meetings be approved. Second by Member Olson. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.

Item 3. Housekeeping
Members went over housekeeping items including 2024 meeting schedule and weekday meeting availability.

Item 4. Bylaws Review & Approval
Members reviewed proposed changes to the bylaws. Member Kavasseri moved to approve the bylaws as proposed. Second by Member Olson. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.

Item 5. Executive Committee Elections
Member Kavassari moved to approve Member Olson as Fargo Youth Initiative Chair and Member Siegel as Fargo Youth Initiative Vice Chair for 2024. Second by Member Abbott. All Members presented voted aye and the motion was declared carried.

Item 6. MLK Jr. Day – January 15
Kayla Jones from the MLK Day Planning Committee provided details for volunteering for this year’s MLK Day event at the Fargo Theater on January 15. Members discussed how they could help spread the word in their schools.

Item 7. Youth Homelessness
Assistant Planner Catlyn Christie shared information on the City’s current efforts regarding homelessness, including an invitation for an upcoming community-wide symposium on ending homelessness.

Item 8. Impact Fargo Event
Members discussed timing of this year’s Impact Fargo event and brainstormed programming ideas. Two subcommittees were formed: Logistics/Marketing and Programming, led by Member Siegel and Member Olson respectively.

Item 9. Other Reports
Member Kavasseri shared a report on behalf of Sustainability and Resiliency Committee regarding the launch of a “Call for Student Art for Bus Wrap.” Members discussed how they could help spread the word in their schools.
