Fargo’s Drinking Water Named Best Tasting in North Dakota for Third Time in Five Years

In addition, Water Utility Director Troy Hall received the George Warren Fuller Award for distinguished service

10/30/2026

The City of Fargo’s drinking water has once again been named the best tasting in North Dakota, earning the top title at the annual North Dakota Water & Pollution Control Conference. With wins in 2022 and 2023, this year marks the third time in five years Fargo has received the award.

In a blind taste test, attendees at this week’s conference in Bismarck sampled drinking water from municipalities around the state and selected Fargo for the top honor in the competition sponsored by the North Dakota section of the American Water Works Association. Fargo is now eligible to compete in the national best-tasting water competition in June 2027. Fargo’s water earned second place in the People’s Choice category of the 2024 national competition.

“We are incredibly proud of our staff at the Regional Water Treatment Plant and grateful for their hard work. This year’s state award is a great recognition of their efforts and the City’s continued commitment to providing safe, high-quality drinking water to our community,” Mayor Josh Boschee said.

Fargo Water Utility Director Troy Hall was also recognized at the conference with the presentation of the George Warren Fuller Award, which honors distinguished service in the water supply field. The award is presented annually by each section of the American Water Works Association. Hall oversees the Regional Water Treatment Plant, which provides drinking water to residents of Fargo, West Fargo and a portion of the Cass Rural Water District.

“The Fargo area is extremely lucky to have a public servant as dedicated as Troy Hall, who has served our community for more than 14 years. His recognition with the George Warren Fuller Award is a testament to his leadership and all the work he and his team do every day to make sure we continue to have exceptional drinking water,” Mayor Boschee said.
