The City of Fargo is seeking nominations for the Gladys Ray Indigenous Peoples Day Award, which recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Fargo’s Indigenous community. This year’s recipient will be formally recognized on Indigenous Peoples Day on Monday, October 12, 2026. Nominations must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026.
The Gladys Ray Award was created in honor of Gladys Shingobe Ray. In her family’s words, she was a dedicated lifelong human rights advocate and volunteer who served her community through her involvement with many organizations and by helping to develop numerous programs. She advocated for all people, especially American Indians, children and people experiencing homelessness. She served as a mentor and advisor to many individuals and projects. Gladys was devoted to sharing her love, wisdom and strength with all of her family, friends and everyone she knew.
To nominate someone for the Gladys Ray Award, complete the nomination form available at FargoND.gov/GladysRayAward. Completed nomination forms can be emailed to Planning@FargoND.gov.
