FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA – The Fargo Police Department has launched its new Flock Safety Transparency Portal, giving residents clear and convenient insight into how the department uses Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology to support public safety while upholding privacy and civil liberties.
Accessible through a link on the department’s website, the Transparency Portal provides community members with comprehensive information about the department’s use of Flock Safety cameras. Visitors can view the number of cameras currently deployed, access the department’s ALPR policy, review audit logs detailing the time, date, and purpose of each search, see the total number of searches conducted in the past 30 days, and explore additional resources related to Flock Safety technology.
“We recognize that trust and transparency are essential to effective policing,” said Captain Matt Christensen. “This portal allows our community to see exactly how this technology is being used, the safeguards that are in place, and our commitment to balancing public safety with individual privacy.” Strict policies govern access to and use of Flock camera data. All searches are logged and audited, and only authorized personnel may access the system for legitimate law enforcement purposes.
The Fargo Police Department employs Flock Safety cameras as an investigative tool to help locate stolen vehicles, identify vehicles connected to criminal activity, assist in missing-persons cases, and support ongoing investigations. The system captures objective vehicle details and license plate information but does not use facial recognition technology.
