Fargo Cass Public Health (FCPH) is reminding Fargo residents of City of Fargo Ordinance 11-0806 that requires property owners to maintain grass at a length not exceeding 8 inches. As trends such as “No Mow May” gain momentum each spring, residents are encouraged to maintain compliance with the local ordinance.
“We receive questions around this time each year related to ‘No Mow May,’” said Grant Larson, Environmental Health Director for FCPH. “The City of Fargo has an ordinance that requires property owners to maintain their grass, during the entire growing season, so it does not exceed 8 inches in length.”
According to the North Dakota State University Extension, foregoing mowing grass for an entire month can be damaging to lawns right before the start of summer. The FCPH Environmental Health Division is responsible for the enforcement of City of Fargo Ordinance 11-0806. Citizens concerned about tall grass and weeds can report a complaint to FCPH by calling 701.476.6729 or by visiting FargoOne.com. The City of Fargo’s Neglected Yards webpage provides additional information about grass and weed requirements.
