Professor Cathy Drennan of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is fascinated by the molecular world. In her presentation for the general public, Drennan will provide an overview of the methods that allow her to “see” the atoms that make-up protein molecules, and describe her journey to become an explorer of the molecular world. Diagnosed with dyslexia as a young child, she learned how to read by memorizing the shapes of words. Now those shape-recognition abilities are applied in her research to investigate the shapes of molecules.
