How does the Navy contribute to world peace and security? What new technologies is the Navy currently developing? These questions and many more will be answered when our community hosts Navy Week Fargo, a Navy signature outreach program.

Scheduled for the week of July 23-27, 2018 to lead up to the Fargo AirSho, Navy Week Fargo provides residents an opportunity to learn about the Navy, its people and its importance to national security and prosperity. Navy Week focuses a variety of outreach assets, equipment and personnel in a community for a weeklong series of engagements with key influencers and organizations. During a typical Navy Week, outreach events are coordinated with corporate, civic, government, education, media, veterans, community service and diversity organizations within the host community.

As part of the Fargo Navy Week celebration, several events will be held at the Fargo Public Library and its branch locations:

First, join us for a couple of storytimes featuring Navy sailors who will share their favorite stories, as well as talk to kids about what it is like to serve in the Navy. This event is open to all ages, but is most appropriate for kids ages 3 to 7. Two sessions are planned; the first is Monday, July 23, starting at 2 p.m. at the Dr. James Carlson Library. The second is Tuesday, July 24, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Main Library. No pre-registration is required to attend.

Next, kids and families are invited to explore the many ways Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) are used daily by Navy sailors with STEM presentations by personnel from the Navy History and Heritage Command, USS Constitution Sailors, Navy Oceanographic Office Sailors, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Sailors. Three hands-on exhibit sessions are scheduled; the first is Monday, July 23, at 3:30 p.m. at the Dr. James Carlson Library. Please note: the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Sailors will NOT be in attendance at the Dr. James Carlson Library event. A second session is set for Tuesday, July 24, at 3:30 p.m. at the Main Library. A third program is Friday, July 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Island Park Gazebo (302 7th St. S.); part of the Library-Palooza! event. These events are open to all ages. No pre-registration is required to attend.

Finally, the library will host three concerts from the Navy Band Great Lakes group featuring different performers at each concert. The concerts are open to all ages, and no pre-registration is required to attend. The concert dates, locations and featured bands are as follows:

  • Tuesday, July 24 – Main Library at 6:30 p.m. featuring the Ceremonial Band
