Zone: North
Project: 19th Avenue N Road Construction Projects

Beginning this afternoon Wednesday, November 22, contractors for the City of Fargo’s 19th Avenue N road reconstruction projects will start removing traffic control and plan to reopen 19th Avenue N between Interstate 29 (I-29) to 57th Street N by end of day today. To prepare the area for a future underpass of the railroad system at the intersection of 45th Street N and 19th Avenue N, the roadway of 19th Avenue N was shifted to the north on both sides of the 45th Street N intersection. The east portion of the new roadway alignment will now be used by motorists traveling through the area.

With this new section in use, 19th Avenue N traffic will follow this route and use of traffic signals:

  • Traffic heading westbound on 19th Avenue N from I-29 interchange will now take the new east portion of the 19th Avenue N road alignment that is just east of 45th Street N intersection. Drivers will then turn south (left) on 45th Street N from the new alignment and then turn west (right) the old 19th Avenue N roadway to continue heading west.
  • At the new intersection of 19th Avenue N new east portion alignment and 45th Street N intersection there will be a three-way stop sign utilized through the winter suspension and active construction next summer. After the project is complete, the intersection of 45th Street N and 19th Avenue N will be a two-way stop with 19th Avenue N traffic having the right of way.

After this week, there will be minimal work within the roadway ditches in preparation for winter suspension on the west end of the project. Through the winter, traffic will drive on the existing roadway of 19th Avenue between 45th Street N to 57th Street N. Work will continue in early spring on 19th Avenue and 45th Street intersection, which will fully close 19th Avenue N between I-29 to 45th Street for approximately one month. The remaining project work on the west portion of 19th Avenue between 45th Street to 57th Street, the south portion of 45th Street N intersection from 16th Avenue N to new 19th Avenue N, and 45th Street N over the railroad tracks, is anticipated to be complete mid-summer.

The 2017 project improvements included added lanes, new concrete, a flush median, updated utilities and street lights to 19th Avenue N to accommodate increased traffic volumes and anticipated population growth in North Fargo. The project also includes a new sanitary sewer interceptor main with an overflow structure to help the area’s sewer network, and updated railroad crossings at 19th Avenue N and 45th Street N to prepare for the possible future underpass. In 2018, work will continue on the reconstruction of 19th Avenue between 45th Street N to 57th Street N. This work will include concrete paving, added lanes, street lights and updating the railroad crossings on 19th Avenue and 45th Street N.
