FARGO, N.D. (September 24, 2021) – Beginning Saturday, October 2, Fargo Cass Public Health (FCPH) will hold ‘Booster Blitz’ COVID-19 vaccine clinics. These clinics are intended solely for individuals recently announced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as eligible to receive a booster dose. ‘Booster Blitz’ clinics will take place at the main FCPH location of 1240 25th Street South, Fargo, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. each Saturday in October. Yesterday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) finalized COVID-19 booster dose recommendations for people who previously received Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The following individuals are recommended to receive a booster dose:
• people 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster shot
• people aged 50–64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster shot
• people aged 18–49 years with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster shot based on their individual benefits and risks, and
• people aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting may receive a booster based on their individual benefits and risks.
The amended authorization applies only to the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. Individuals who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine are not approved to receive a booster dose.
According to CDC, with the Delta variant’s dominance as the circulating strain and cases of COVID-19 increasing significantly across the United States, a booster shot will help strengthen protection against severe disease in those populations who are at high-risk for exposure to COVID-19 or the complications from severe disease.
Individuals who completed their primary Pfizer series through another provider will be able to receive the booster dose from FCPH. Additional information about ‘Booster Blitz’ clinics is available on the FCPH website: www.FargoCassPublicHealth.com/covidbooster.
At the current time, boosters will be offered at the Saturday clinics only while Tuesday and Friday will be dedicated to those needing their first or second dose. Additional information is available on the FCPH website: www.FargoCassPublicHealth.com/covidvaccine.
