The Inspections Department recommends everyone think about saving energy and decreasing energy bills. Current energy code requires compliance for all new homes constructed; however, existing homes should also take advantage of the energy savings. One requirement of the code is 90 percent of all lamps installed be high efficacy and that means fluorescent or LED bulbs. Replacing one 60-watt incandescent bulb with a 9 watt fluorescent or LED bulb will save 85 percent of energy. LED bulbs also last 10 to 25 times longer than incandescent. Another energy saving idea is installing a setback thermostat for heating and cooling system, which will pay for itself quickly with an average savings of 10 percent to 20 percent per year.

This spring, NDSU urban design architecture students, under the professorship of David Crutchfield, displayed their “FARGO2050: The Challenge for a Sustainable City” project boards in the atrium at City Hall. The subject of their designs were based on the Go2030 Master Plan. Students were asked to redesign or develop various designated districts around Fargo. Let's enjoy a video made by our Communications Department about the students and their projects.
