WHEREAS, The need for a skilled, highly trained workforce with nationally recognized education credentials for the construction industry continues to be a great need in North Dakota; and
-
WHEREAS, Registered Apprentices develop these skills in a well-structured, supervised, regulated format with transparency requirements, uniform standards, and mandatory safety training by certified instructors; and
-
WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship programs recruit and retain workers through progressive wage increases, apprentice-to-journey worker ratios and measured quality assessments formally recognized by the Department of Labor; and
-
WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship provides a guaranteed pathway to the middle class through a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction for thousands of workers with family-sustaining wages with benefits packages; and
-
WHEREAS, In 2019 through the Federal Registered Apprenticeship program, the member organizations of the ND Building Trades Unions accounted for almost sixty percent of all registered apprentices in North Dakota with over 123,000 instructed hours of documented, trade curriculum education; and

WHEREAS, The Members of the North Dakota Building Trades Unions along with the City of Fargo and the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship, commit to encourage and promote the Registered Apprenticeship Model to train, develop and deploy the most skilled, competent and competitive workforce that will be needed to build the next generation of infrastructure in communities across North Dakota.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim November 11-17, 2019 as
NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, we have hereunto set our hands and caused the Seal of the City of Fargo, North Dakota to be affixed this 8th day of November, 2019.
