Nominations are now being accepted for the Human Relations Commission’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day Human Relations awards. Community members are encouraged to submit nominations by November 13, 2019 for individuals and organizations from Fargo that do work embodying Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life as well as his legacy.

The Human Relations Commission (HRC) will once again celebrate and commemorate the life of Dr. King on January 20, 2020 at the Fargo Theatre. Each year at this event, the HRC, along with Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney, formally recognize the work and contributions of Fargo community members with three special awards to an individual adult, youth, and a business/nonprofit organization. The HRC would particularly like to recognize those who promote acceptance and respect for diversity and help to eliminate discrimination. These awards serve to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts made by citizens to make our community a place in which all feel welcomed and valued.

To nominate someone, complete the nomination form and email to Planning or return hard copies to the City of Fargo Planning Department (225 4th Street N, Fargo, ND 58102) no later than November 13, 2019. Call 701.241.1474 for more information. A list of previous winners can be found here.

The Fargo Human Relations Commission works to promote acceptance and respect for diversity and discourages all forms of discrimination. The Human Relations Commission meets on the third Thursday of every month at 12 p.m. in the City Commission Room, City Hall, 225 4th St N. A public comment period is provided at the meetings.
