Zone: North
Project: 19th Avenue N

Contractors for the City of Fargo’s 19th Avenue North road reconstruction and infrastructure improvement project will reopen the roadway today, June 19, by early evening.

Travel along 19th Avenue North between 57th Street North and 45th Street North will be fully open to motorists. Crews will remove all detour routes or temporary business access along 19th Avenue N. Over the next month crews will still be on site completing cleanup work off of the roadway surface.

As a reminder, the 45th Street N and 19th Avenue N intersection is an all-way stop. The new 45th Street N intersection moved to the north with the new road alignment of 19th Avenue N and was completed in September 2018. The existing intersection has been removed and railroad crossing has been updated to prepare the area for a future underpass.

19th Avenue North project improvements include a new 5-lane roadway with new concrete, a flush median, updated utilities and streetlights. Crews also installed an overflow structure in the new sanitary sewer interceptor main which will improve the area’s sewer network.

Two adjacent projects were designed to build an urbanized 19th Avenue N roadway section from I-29 to 45th Street N, including 45th Street N intersection reconstruction from 16th Avenue North to 19th Avenue N, and from west of 45th Street N to 57th Street N. The project work was slated to be complete over two-years to accommodate increased traffic volumes and anticipated population growth in north Fargo. 19th Avenue N serves as an important roadway connecting drivers and nearby property owners to I-29. As Fargo has grown, the road became outdated and too small for increasing traffic volumes. The new 5-lane roadway will create more space and safer travel routes for motorists.
