Mayoral Proclamation - Martin Luther King Jr. Day

I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim January 21, 2019 to be Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Fargo, North Dakota and urge residents to serve our community in King’s spirit.

  • WHEREAS, January 21, 2019, is the national holiday to observe the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. one of America’s greatest visionary leaders who peacefully lead civil rights activism in our nation through
    non-violent means; and

  • WHEREAS, King devoted his life to justice and equality for people of all races and economic standings, which led to the establishment of many federal and local laws prohibiting discrimination and fostering human rights; and

  • WHEREAS, The Fargo Human Relations Commission, an appointed citizen advisory board since 2000, has worked diligently to promote the acceptance and respect of diversity through educational programs and activities that discourage all forms of discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability and status with regard to marriage or public assistance; and

WHEREAS, The City of Fargo celebrates King’s legacy and honors those who serve the community in his spirit.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim January 21, 2019 to be
