The Third Annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration to be Held on October 8

The Native American Commission will co-host the 3rd Annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration

The Native American Commission will co-host the third Annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration on October 8 at Agassiz School, located at 1305 9th Avenue South in Fargo. This event strives to strengthen the community through reconciliation and healing.

This event is free, open to the public and family-friendly. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. At 10 a.m., there will be a blessing and presentation of tribal nations’ flags to Mayor Tim Mahoney. The event will also include the presentation of this year’s Gladys Ray Award to Amber Mattson, Gladys Ray’s granddaughter. From 2 to 4 p.m., adults are welcome to attend professional development with Allan Demaray. At 5 p.m., all are invited to enjoy a traditional indigenous meal. The Community Powwow will be held at 6:30 p.m., with Masters of Ceremonies Micky Hodges.

The Fargo Native American Commission, Moorhead Indian Education, Fargo Public School and West Fargo Public School’s Indian Education, Prairie Public, MSUM and the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators sponsor the Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration.

The mission of the Fargo Native American Commission is to work together to strengthen the Native American community in order to promote understanding, recognition and respect for Native American cultures and enrich the whole community.
