Nominations are now being accepted for the Human Relations Commission’s Martin Luther King, Jr. awards.

The Human Relations Commission will once again celebrate and commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on January 21, 2019 at the Fargo Theatre. Each year at this event, the Fargo Human Relations Commission (HRC), along with Mayor Tim Mahoney, recognize the work and contributions of Fargo community members with three special awards to an individual adult, youth and a business/nonprofit organization.

The Human Relations Commission invites community members to nominate individuals or businesses from Fargo who do work embodying Dr. King’s legacy. There are many ways Fargo community members and businesses are eligible to receive a Human Relations Award, and the HRC would particularly like to recognize those who promote acceptance and respect for diversity and help to eliminate discrimination. These awards serve to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts made by citizens to make our community a place in which all feel welcomed and valued.

You may submit your nomination electronically or you may print a hard copy. Hard copies should be returned to the City of Fargo Planning Department no later than October 15. You can return hard copies in person at 225 4th Street N, or call 701.241.1474 for more information. A list of previous winners is also available.

The Fargo Human Relations Commission works to promote acceptance and respect for diversity and discourages all forms of discrimination. The Human Relations Commission meets on the third Thursday of every month at 12 noon in the City Commission Room, City Hall, 200 3rd St. N. A public comment period is provided at all meetings. For more information, please visit the Human Relations Commission’s page on the City of Fargo’s website: FargoND.gov/humanrelations
