Mayoral Proclamation - Law Day - 05.01.2018

I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, North Dakota, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2018 as Law Day

  • WHEREAS, This country was founded on the principle that voluntary adherence to the rule of law expands, rather than limits, the opportunities for freedom; and

  • WHEREAS, A viable democracy requires understanding of the nature and basis of our freedoms and recognition of the individual responsibilities which those freedoms impose; and

  • WHEREAS, The U.S. Constitution sets out a system of government with distinct and independent branches - Congress, the Presidency and a Supreme Court and defines legislative, executive and judicial powers, outlining how they interact; and

  • WHEREAS, The Law Day 2018 theme of "Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom" enables us to reflect on the separation of powers as fundamental to our constitutional purpose and to consider how our governmental system is working for ourselves and our posterity.

  • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, North Dakota, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2018 as Law Day in the City of Fargo and urge the citizens, schools, businesses, legal professionals and media of Fargo to use this occasion to preserve and strengthen the rule of law.
