WHEREAS, Elim Lutheran Church was founded by Swedish Lutheran immigrants in 1891; and

WHEREAS, Elim was one of the area churches that organized the Fargo Moorhead Emergency Food Pantry in 1972 and served as its home until 1979; and
-
WHEREAS, Elim was instrumental in the formation of St. Luke’s Hospital, Churches United for the Homeless, and the Sheltering Churches project; and
-
WHEREAS, Elim’s church home houses not only the Elim congregation, it also serves as host to the St. Mark’s congregation and the First Sudanese Lutheran congregation; and
-
WHEREAS, Elim is to be commended for its longevity, engagement, diversity and its influence in the City of Fargo and neighboring communities; and
-
WHEREAS, Elim has a history of meeting the challenges and needs of the community; and
-
WHEREAS, The Elim Lutheran Church will celebrate 125 years of existence on October 16, 2016.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim October 16, 2016, to be Elim Lutheran Church Day in the City of Fargo, North Dakota.
