WHEREAS, Trees and shrubs are a most valuable resource in Fargo today, protecting our soil, helping conserve moisture and energy, beautifying our homes and making Fargo a more inviting place to live and visit; and

WHEREAS, Vigorously growing trees and shrubs produce life sustaining oxygen, slow down forceful winds, break the monotony of endless sidewalks and miles of highways, soften the outline of the masonry, metal and glass cityscape, and increase the value of property; and

WHEREAS, Disease and insects have damaged and threatened our trees, creating the need for the continuation of tree planting programs throughout the city; and
-
WHEREAS, On Arbor Day the people of Fargo commit themselves to the continued health of our city's inventory of trees.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, North Dakota, do hereby proclaim
May 13, 2016 as Arbor Day in the City of Fargo and urge all citizens to become more aware of the importance of our urban trees to the well-being of our City, and to demonstrate their concern for future generations by participating in tree planting programs. -
