Mayoral Proclamation - Steve Balstad Day - 09.04.2016


  • WHEREAS, Steve Balstad was hired as a Fargo Firefighter in 1974, was promoted to lieutenant in 1987, fire captain in 1995, assistant chief in 2000, and served as acting chief in 2011; and

  • WHEREAS, Steve Balstad was all business and calm under pressure when the situation called for it, yet had a lighter side and a great sense of humor; and

  • WHEREAS, Steve Balstad had many hobbies, loved to travel and especially loved the Caribbean; and

  • WHEREAS, Steve Balstad was devoted to his career and his family; and

  • WHEREAS, His commitment to serving the citizens of Fargo was commendable and a source of inspiration to others; and

  • WHEREAS, Steve Balstad retired from the Fargo Fire Department after 40 years of service in April, 2014; and

  • WHEREAS, Steve Balstad’s passing on August 15, 2016 is a great loss for the city, his coworkers, his family and friends.

  • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim Sunday, September 4, 2016 to be Steve Balstad Day in the City of Fargo, North Dakota and I call upon his friends and associates to celebrate this special day so his memory and contributions will not be forgotten.
