Mayoral Proclamation - Neurofibromatosis Awareness Day - 06.03.2017

I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim June 3, 2017 as Neurofibromatosis Awareness Day.

  • WHEREAS, NF Upper Midwest is observing Neurofibromatosis (NF) Awareness Day on June 3, 2017 to educate the public about this rare genetic disorder; and

  • WHEREAS, More than 100,000 Americans are living with NF and one in every 3,000 babies are born with the disorder, yet it is still relatively unknown to the public and at the present time there is no cure or treatment; and

  • WHEREAS, NF, which affects all populations regardless of race, ethnicity or gender, is a progressive and unpredictable disorder that can attack every function of the body, causes tumors to grow on nerves, and symptoms vary in degree of severity including brain tumors, deafness, bone deformities, cancer, learning disabilities and facial and body disfigurement; and,

  • WHEREAS, NF Upper Midwest leads efforts to promote efforts to sponsor kids to go to camp and awards grants to attend related conferences; and,

  • WHEREAS, NF Upper Midwest continues to lobby to ensure continued federal funding of NF-related research and on June 3 will host the Step Up for NF Walk at Lindenwood Park.

  • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim June 3, 2017 as Neurofibromatosis Awareness Day in the City of Fargo, North Dakota.
