Zone: Downtown
Project: 2nd Avenue N Reconstruction

In mid-August, the second phase of the 2nd Avenue N reconstruction and water main replacement project started in downtown Fargo.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 31, the contractor for the City of Fargo will open 2nd Avenue N between Roberts Street intersection to 7th Street N to drivers by the end of the day. Pedestrian access on the north and south side of the roadway has remained open for use throughout the duration of the project work.

The intersection of Roberts Street and 2nd Avenue N has changed to a four-way stop and no longer will be utilizing a traffic signal to move drivers through the intersection.

The 2nd Avenue infrastructure project was designed in two phases to completely reconstruction the roadway, replace outdated water main and improve street lighting between Roberts Alley to 7th Street N, including the Roberts Street intersection. The pavement conditions of 2nd Avenue N through both project areas was deteriorating and had not been completely reconstructed since the road was built in 1912.

Two adjacent projects are occurring near this work zone that will continue through the fall and early winter. The private construction project work has closed the north sidewalk and parking lane between Roberts alley and Roberts Street through December. This is the section in front of the Roberts Commons Parking ramp on 2nd Avenue N.

The Roberts Street alley is currently closed for city improvement project through mid-November. The accessway is closed to deliveries and pedestrian traffic between 2nd Avenue N – 4th Avenue N. Businesses are asked to remember to use the designated delivery areas at 4th Avenue, 3rd Avenue and 2nd Avenue N throughout the duration of the alley work.
