Beginning Tuesday September 5, preparation work for an upcoming intersection project will begin in central Fargo. Crews will be active around the intersection of 25th Street and 13th Avenue South installing temporary signals on the corners of the intersection for use throughout the project this fall. Next week there will be intermittent closures of the designated right turn lanes in the intersection.

The following week is when the project work will kick-off. Beginning Monday, September 11, contractors for the City of Fargo will begin a roadway rehabilitation and reconstruction project at the intersection of 25th Street and 13th Avenue South.

In recent years, the pavement located in the intersection has been experiencing excessive deterioration and lots of potholes have developed. The pavement is beyond preventive maintenance repairs to keep the driving surface safe for motorists.

While crews, remove and replace the intersection of 25th Street and 13th Avenue South, one lane of traffic with turning lanes in each direction will be maintained through the work zone. The intersection will not fully close to traffic, however at times certain traffic movements will be limited to right-in and right-out in the zone to help with traffic flow.

“The project will aid in extending the useful life of this pavement by replacing the bad pavement and restoring the structural integrity of this road,” said Jeremy Gorden, transportation division engineer for the City of Fargo. “While this roadway isn’t one of our older stretches of road, the ride needs to be much better for our area drivers. We appreciate all of the patience from local businesses and residents as we work in this area.”

Along with full intersection reconstruction, crews will be completing pavement repairs on 25th Street from 12th Avenue South to 17th Avenue South.

The intersection work will occur in three phases and pavement repairs in one phase with the following traffic patterns:

  • Phase 1: Crews will remove all the medians through the intersection and install temporary traffic signals. Motorists will be split for travel on their respective side during removals.
  • OPEN: North/south and east/west one lane with left turning lanes in each direction
  • Phase 2: Crews will begin intersection work on the northwest quadrant (the northwest corner by Wells Fargo) and then move clockwise to the next corner.
  • OPEN: North/south and east/west one lane with left turning lanes in each direction.
  • CLOSED: During northwest and southwest quadrants, second driveway south of the intersection on 25th Street S (Subway driveway). During northeast and southeast quadrants, first driveway north of intersection on 25th Street S (CVS Pharmacy driveway) and second driveway south of the intersection on 25th Street S (Subway driveway). Other business driveways located near intersection work will be right-in and right-out access.
  • Phase 3: Crews will rebuild the median area and install permanent traffic signals. Motorists will be split for travel on their respective side.
  • OPEN: one lane with left turning lanes in each direction
  • Phase 4: Crews will complete pavement repairs on 25th Street from 12th Avenue South to 17th Avenue South. (Bad patches of concrete roadway will be removed and replaced) Motorist will experience multiple lane closures.
One sidewalk crossing for east/west and north/south will be maintained. At times stretches will be closed to accommodate the work occurring in the corner.

**Please remember all schedules are tentative and weather dependent.

Speeds are reduced in the work zone so drivers are reminded to slow down, eliminate distractions and pay attention to signage, as crews may be working near traffic.
