Fargo Police Academy

General Information

The application process for the 2021 Summer Academy has closed. We will start the application process for the 2022 Summer Academy in Fall, 2021.

The Fargo Police Department will be hosting a tuition-free 12 week Police Training Academy this summer. The academy will start on May 17th, 2021 and end on August 6th, 2021.

This Academy will be certified by the North Dakota Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (ND POST). Successful completion of our Academy will result in the applicant being ND POST License Eligible upon employment by any North Dakota Law Enforcement Agency. The Fargo Police Department will also be looking to hire Academy graduates for full time employment as a Fargo Police Officer.

Those that are selected for the academy will be considered unpaid interns for the Fargo Police Department. If desired, those selected could potentially receive educational credits through their respective educational institution. However, that determination would come directly from them, not the Fargo Police Department.

Q: How much does it cost to attend the Fargo Police Summer Academy?

A: The Fargo Police Academy is tuition-free. There will be small fees associated with the application process by 3rd party entities (medical physical, psychological evaluation, uniforms).

Q: Will I receive educational credits for attending the Academy?

A: Students will not receive educational credits from the Fargo Police Department for attending this academy. However, students may be able to receive credits from their respective educational institution as an internship. Please check with your educational institution for more information.

Q: What happens after graduation from the Academy?

A: Each student that successfully completes the Academy will be considered North Dakota POST (Peace Officer Standards & Training) eligible. Essentially, this means you're certified to work as a licensed Peace Officer in the state of ND. More information can be found on the ND POST board website.

Q: What is the daily schedule?

A: Typically, Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
