Home Fire Sprinkler Week

Home Fire Sprinkler Week to be held May 19-25

05/17/2019

The Fargo Fire Department is observing Home Fire Sprinkler Week by hosting a fire safety event on May 21. The Fargo Fire Department was awarded a $500 stipend from the national non-profit Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) to increase its home fire sprinkler education locally by hosting a community event during Home Fire Sprinkler Week. Fire departments across the country will conduct similar events during the week.
The Fargo Fire Department will have its fire safety house available at Fire Station 1, 637 NP Ave, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Tuesday, May 21. The fire safety house has been successfully utilized for several years to provide home fire safety education. This education will now include home fire sprinklers.
According to the HFSC, the following information details the importance of fire sprinklers:
• The risk of dying in a home fire decreases by about 85 percent if sprinklers are present.
• When sprinklers were present, fires were kept to the room of origin 97 percent of the time.
• In the event of a fire, typically only the sprinkler closest to the fire will activate by spraying water directly on the fire, leaving the rest of the house dry and secure. Approximately 89 percent of the time, only one sprinkler operates.
