Fargo firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a second floor window of an apartment building located at 2545 14th St S. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke in a second floor apartment. Further investigation found a fire located on the exterior of the building. Crews quickly extinguished the fire using a portable extinguisher and then removed exterior siding from the structure to reveal fire had extended into the void space between the first and second floors. Additional extinguishers were used to extinguish the rest of the fire.
There were no injuries and fire spread was limited due to early activation of the 9-1-1 system and quick actions taken by the first arriving fire crews. The fire is considered to be accidental and the cause was determined to be electrical. No damage assessment is available at this time.
The Fargo Fire Department would like to remind everyone to exit the building immediately when a fire alarm sounds and to call 9-1-1 at the first sign of smoke or fire.
