Downtown Fargo Street Fair Transportation Options & Event-Related Road Closures

Beginning Wednesday, July 18, at 5 a.m., Broadway between 3rd Avenue North to 7th Avenue North intersections and 4th Avenue North between Broadway and 2nd Avenue North will close to traffic as the City of Fargo prepares to host the 2018 Downtown Fargo Street Fair from July 19 – 21.

During the event, the following Broadway and 4th Avenue North intersections will remain open to cross vehicle or pedestrian traffic:

  • 2nd Avenue North
  • 3rd Avenue North
  • 6th Avenue North – location of a dedicated pedestrian crossing
  • 7th Avenue North
  • 4th Street North – location of a dedicated pedestrian crossing

Broadway and 4th Avenue North will reopen late Saturday evening after the three-day event concludes.

The City is maximizing resources by partnering with major organizations such as the Downtown Community Partnership, Fargo Parking and MATBUS to improve transportation and parking options for this popular summer celebration.

Road Improvements:
Additional car, truck and foot traffic is expected throughout the three-days of the Downtown Fargo Street Fair. It is important to plan your route in advance to potentially reduce congestion time and allow yourself more time to enjoy the event.

This year’s active roadway and infrastructure work zones to plan around:

  • 5th Street North between 2nd – 3rd Avenue North – The north 1⁄2 block section of 5th Street North between 2nd – 3rd Avenue North is completely closed to drivers and street parking is temporary unavailable.

    • Pedestrian access is maintained on the east side next to the building entrances and temporary exit from the bank drive-thru maintained to 2nd Avenue North.
    • Crews replaced the old water main in this area and will begin paving the new roadway this week.
  • Roberts Alley (north half) between 2nd – 4th Avenue North – The north portion of the alley is closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic between 2nd Avenue – 4th Avenue North.

    • The south half from behind the coffee shop to 2nd Avenue North is open to pedestrian, bike and delivery traffic.
    • Access to the south portion of the alley is via 2nd Avenue North.
  • Roberts Street between 2nd – 4th Avenue North – Starting Thursday, July 19, crews will start the south portion of the Roberts Street reconstruction and water main improvement project. Roberts Street will close between 2nd Avenue to Roberts Common Salvation Army building to vehicle and street parking.

    • Local traffic only will be maintained on Roberts Street between 4th Avenue North to the Roberts Common Parking Ramp
    • Roberts Common Parking Ramp will be OPEN and accessible from 4th Avenue North and Roberts Street intersection
    • Pedestrian access will be maintained on the west side of Roberts Street through the two-blocks
    • Street parking will be allowed on north portion of Roberts Street and OPEN spots with access via 4th Avenue and Roberts Street intersection
  • 10th Street North between 4th – 12th Avenue North – Northbound 10th Street North traffic is detoured at 4th Avenue North to be carried head-to-head on University Drive to 12th Avenue North.

    • Intersection of 8th Avenue North, 10th Avenue North, 11th Avenue North and railroad underpass will be closed to traffic when the Street Fair starts.
    • Pedestrian access is maintained through the entire work zone.

LinkFM:
The fastest and easiest way for drivers to get to the Street Fair is to park and ride. The free LinkFM bus service provides convenient access between several public parking lots and the event. Fair-goers may park at the Moorhead Center Mall and catch the LinkFM bus at the shelter in the east parking lot.

LinkFM will have extended service for all Street Fair days and there will be 2 extra buses on route during the service hours to provide 5-minute service throughout the day.

  • July 19 – 7:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.
  • July 20 –7:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.
  • July 21 – 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

The service has also modified its route and added four more bus stops located within a block of the Street Fair. Additional buses will also be running to provide rides for passengers every five minutes.

MATBUS:
MATBUS is offering half price fares this week for all routes, with free rides system-wide on Saturday. Passengers may utilize MATBUS’ bike and bus feature, with all MATBUS vehicles equipped with bike racks to allow passengers to travel on the bus while taking their bike with them.

Parking:
For those who prefer to park and walk, there are several throughout the downtown area.

Parking garages:

  • Island Park Garage and Roberts Commons Garage have more than 800 combined spots
  • Each vehicle only costs $5 for the full day
  • Other City-owned lots, such as the one east of City Hall, are open and free for parking after business hours and on weekends

Street parking:

  • Weekdays – Free all day and all-time limit restrictions will be lifted after 5 p.m.
  • Saturday – No time restrictions

Biking:
Bikers are encouraged to utilize the City’s Bike Share program, with three drop-off and pick-up locations near the Downtown Fargo Street Fair, or to park their bikes at the added racks near Great Northern Bicycle Company.

Bikers can also use Roberts Commons Garage with 70 bike parking spaces available in the lower level. Access to the garage is off 2nd Avenue North from the south portion of Roberts Alley.
