Project: 25th Street & 13th Ave S Intersection Reconstruction
UPDATE: An additional day was needed for concrete cure time, by Saturday, June 2 crews will shift traffic to the inside three driving lanes on 25th Street South from 13th Avenue South to 17th Avenue South. Crews will begin repairing bad areas of the driving surface on the outside driving lanes on both sides of the roadway. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction south of the intersection with left turn lanes maintained on 25th Street South.
By Saturday, crews will complete the building of the permanent center medians at the intersection of 13th Avenue and 25th Street South and remove all traffic control. For drivers, this means additional through lanes and all turn lanes will be open for use in between the repair projects on 25th Street South.
The project schedule has shifted, and work will begin on Monday, June 11, weather permitting, for the north portion of the road improvements. Crews will be extending the current 25th Street South concrete pavement repair (CPR) project work zone north of the 13th Avenue South to south of the railroad crossing near 2nd Avenue South. Traffic will be carried in a single lane in each direction through a two-block section at a time on 25th Street South.
The first traffic impacts on north 25th Street South will be between 12th Avenue S to 8th Avenue South:
- Traffic will be side by side on the south bound lanes
- 9th Avenue South west side of 25th Street South – Traffic will be right in & right out access only, no northbound 25th Street South left turns or 9th Avenue eastbound left-turns will be allowed
- 9th Avenue South east side of 25th Street South – will be closed with detour route setup
- Sidewalk will be maintained on east side of the project limits
Work will be complete on the last phase of the south section of the CPR project by mid-June. The north section of the CPR project will be complete by September.
In CPR projects, crews remove the bad areas of the driving surface and replace the area with new concrete. Sections of the roadway will re-open to traffic once designed strength has been achieved on the new concrete. There may be periods of time when workers are not present in the zone while concrete is curing over a period of time.
With crews working so close to moving traffic in CPR work zones, drivers are reminded to slow down, eliminate distractions and pay attention to signage. Speeds are reduced in the work zone.
**Please remember all schedules are tentative and weather dependent.
