Mayoral Proclamation - Jack Wood Day - 01.02.2018

I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim January 5, 2018 as Jack Wood Day.

  • WHEREAS, Jack Wood was born and raised on a farm near Enderlin, North Dakota, settling in Fargo with his family, and long enjoying the ability to nurture a seed into a plant; and

  • WHEREAS, Jack Wood has lived a quiet but impactful life, characterized by devotion to gardening, specifically tomatoes, once growing over 100 varieties in his back yard, earning the nickname “Tomato King;” and

  • WHEREAS, In 2006, Jack Wood took that passion for growing food to help start Growing Together ~ A Community Garden Ministry, a project of Olivet Lutheran Church with the mission to provide a safe place for New American neighbors to meet new friends and grow food and relationships; and

  • WHEREAS, Growing Together has grown to become the largest community gardening program in the region, supporting and connecting over 100 families across the great Fargo community; and,

  • WHEREAS, Jack Wood is a living example of his own words, “Each person can make a difference in this world for the better;” and

  • WHEREAS, The City of Fargo wishes to honor Jack Wood on the occasion of his upcoming retirement for his service to our community by example, and his indelible impact on our town, its citizens and the quality of life (and local food) we enjoy.

  • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim January 5, 2018 as Jack Wood Day in the City of Fargo, North Dakota and call upon his friends and associates to celebrate this day recognizing Gardener Extraordinaire Jack Wood for his contributions.

  • IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Fargo, North Dakota to be affixed this 21st day of December, 2017.
