The City of Fargo has received information regarding two phone scams involving individuals identifying themselves as City of Fargo employees.

In one scam, an individual called a business and claimed the business was delinquent on its account and if the account was not paid, electricity to the business would be shut off. The City does not provide electricity to homeowners or business owners.

In the second scam, it was reported that an individual identified themselves as a City of Fargo employee and the number on Caller ID also indicated the call was coming from the City of Fargo. The individual was trying to sell medical alert bracelets. The City of Fargo is not selling medical alert bracelets.

It is strongly recommended that residents avoid providing any personal or financial information during these calls. Residents are advised to hang up on the caller and encouraged to contact the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office at 800.472.2600 to report their experiences. There is no need to call the Fargo Police Department.
