Mayoral Proclamation - Fair Housing Month - 04.01.2016

  • WHEREAS, April marks the anniversary of the passage of the Federal Fair Housing Act of 1968, which sought to eliminate discrimination in housing opportunities and to affirmatively further housing choices for all Americans; and

  • WHEREAS, The Fair Housing law prohibits discrimination in housing on the basis of race or color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability; and

  • WHEREAS, Fair Housing Month provides an opportunity for all Americans to rededicate themselves to the principal of freedom of choice in housing and to reacquaint themselves with the rights and responsibilities that are theirs under law; and

  • WHEREAS, The City of Fargo supports a concerted effort toward the elimination of discrimination in housing so that all citizens will have the opportunity to live in decent, safe and affordable housing.

  • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim April 2016 as Fair Housing Month in the City of Fargo, North Dakota and urge all citizens to honor and abide by the letter and spirit of the Fair Housing law.
