Mayoral Proclamation - Jake Laber Day - 08.19.2016

I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim Friday, August 19, 2016, to be Jake Laber Day.

  • WHEREAS, Jake Laber, the son of Ken and Deb Laber, attended Washington Elementary, Horace Mann Elementary, Ben Franklin Junior High and Fargo North Senior High; and

  • WHEREAS, Jake was a stellar athlete at Fargo North and for the Fargo Post 2 American Legion program before moving on to pitch for the Bison of North Dakota State University (NDSU) from 2005 to 2008; and

  • WHEREAS, at NDSU, Jake was a two-time selection to the Division I independent all-academic team and College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll; and

  • WHEREAS, Jake had a successful seven-year career in professional baseball, most notably with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Laber ended his RedHawks career in 2014 as the franchise leader in games started, innings pitched and strikeouts; and

  • WHEREAS, Jake most recently worked as an auditor at Noridian Healthcare Solutions and assisted the North Dakota Tourism Division in its campaigns to promote our state across the nation; and

  • WHEREAS, Jake unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016, just five days before he was to marry his fiancĂ©e, Karisa Gullickson; and

  • WHEREAS, Jake was an intelligent, caring, strong and talented man who inspired countless young baseball players across the region and was beloved by our community;

  • WHEREAS, Jake represented the number 19 admirably throughout his many years of baseball and will be sorely missed by his thousands of fans.

  • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim Friday, August 19, 2016, to be Jake Laber Day in the City of Fargo, North Dakota.

  • IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Fargo, North Dakota to be affixed this 19th day of August, 2016.
