Mayoral Proclamation - Childhood Cancer Awareness Month - 09.01.2016

I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim September 2016 as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

  • WHEREAS, Reports show cancer as the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States and is detected in more than 15,000 of our nation’s young people every year; and

  • WHEREAS, Roger Maris Cancer Center and Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo are designated as North Dakota’s only Children’s Oncology Group (COG) site and are dedicated to helping childhood cancer patients and their families throughout the region; and

  • WHEREAS, Roger Maris Cancer Center and Sanford Children’s Hospital are home to the state’s “Brave Kids Bold Cures” program and provide a variety of vital patient and family services to children undergoing cancer treatment, thereby enhancing the quality of life for childhood cancer patients and their families throughout the region; and

  • WHEREAS, Like other forms of cancer, childhood cancer has an international symbol, the gold ribbon - this symbol is being introduced to our region with the goal of uniting together to fight childhood cancer and create awareness about its devastating toll on children and their families; and

  • WHEREAS, The goal of the “Brave Kids Bold Cures” campaign is to raise awareness and funds to help make a difference in the lives of childhood cancer patients, childhood cancer survivors and their families, as well as memorializing those childhood cancer victims who have earned their angel wings.

  • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim September 2016 as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Fargo, North Dakota.

  • IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Fargo, North Dakota to be affixed this 29th day of August, 2016.
