Mission to the Sun: The Parker Solar Probe

Date: August 20, 2018

Time: 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Location: Main Library 102 3rd Street North Fargo, ND 58102 Get Directions

Scheduled to launch in August, NASA is preparing to “Touch the Sun” with the Parker Solar Probe, a spacecraft that will fly closer to the sun than any before. Learn about this amazing mission and the mysteries scientists hope to solve about our nearest star when Juan Cabanela, Professor of Physics and Astronomy at MSUM, joins us at the Main Library on Monday, August 20 at 2 p.m. Find out how the spacecraft will survive the intense heat, what scientists are looking for, and how the information may affect our lives on Earth. Then learn how to safely view solar activity with the library’s Sunspotter Telescopes, now available for checkout at each Fargo Public Library location. This event is open to all ages, but is most appropriate for school age children and older. No registration is required.
