Starting Friday, July 21, contractors for the City of Fargo will extend roadway removals and underground work from the current work zone to half-way between 1st Avenue S and Main Avenue on 4th Street S, closing the intersection of 1st Ave. S.

Through the work zone, drivers will encounter the following changes in access or travel route to destinations:

  • Main Avenue (2nd St. S to 4th St.; and at 2nd St. N) – in the median area

Starting next week, on Monday July 24, a neighboring reconstruction and water main replacement project will begin on 7th Street S. The project will replace the existing cast iron water main that is over 76 years old and replace the deteriorating roadway from 1st Ave. S to 5th Ave. S. Sections of this roadway were first installed in 1948.

Next week, crews will start on the south side of the work zone and close the roadway between 5th Ave. S to just south of 3rd Avenue S and 7th St. S intersection to thru traffic. Local resident and business access off of 7th St. S will be accessible via 8th Street S and cross streets through the area.

Speeds will be reduced to 25 mph through both work zones. Please slow down and watch for trucks entering and exiting the work area.

The project work should be complete by late fall for the 4th St. S and 7th St. S. reconstruction and water main replacements.
