Storm Sewer Design & Construction

The Storm Sewer Utilities Division is responsible for the design and construction of public facilities that convey storm water runoff to the Red River. The main goal of the City's design and construction efforts is to provide the most efficient and affordable storm water conveyance system that can adequately handle storm water runoff events.

The primary components of the City's storm water system are:

  • Storm Sewer Pipes
  • Inlets, Catch Basins and Manholes
  • Lift Stations
  • Outfall Structures

Some components of the existing storm sewer system are more than 100 years old, with the system being constructed of a variety of materials that includes ductile iron, plastic, steel, cast iron, concrete, brick and vitrified clay.

Projects typically include the construction of new features designed to increase system capacity, as well as rehabilitation or replacement of existing features that have experienced structural and/or functional deterioration.
